POKETO X KATE BINGAMAN BURT

It's not a secret that I'm a fan of Poketo. They really take collaborations to the next level (check out the all of the artists they've worked with!). Their recent collaboration with illustrator Kate Bingaman Burt is an eye-catcher for sure--a colorful new collection of hand-printed kitchen linens made from 100 percent pure linen. The ink used on the linens is non-toxic and water-based (always a plus in my book) making them completely safe for your home. I think Kate's work and Poketo are a perfect match!

How do you integrate art into your everyday living?

I came across these Hans Silvester photographs recently and was mesmerized by the colors, textures and graphic elements represented on the Ethopian Omo Tribe's bodies. There seems to be a story behind every one of those lines, shapes and botanical head dresses. After seeing these photographs, I thought there would be no better way than to translate the colors and textures into the other areas of our life that most represent the best of color and texture: Outfits & Spaces.

WANTED.

Yes, this beautiful piece of art, Fore, is on my "wanted" list. It's by the one and only David (aka Dabito) of Old Brand New. The first edition print sold out mad quickly and I'm patiently waiting to get my pretty little paws on a second ed. print when it comes out (keep your eyes peeled for the next batch!). Along with this, there are a few other things on my "wanted" list...and you can see them on Pennyweight today! So stoked to be part of Elise's Wanted This Week series. Check it  out here.

I have been thinking of you all! I left suddenly last week for various festivities and photo shoots in southern California. These past few days have been absolutely amazing--good weather, being around good people, and livin'. Summer is just about here, I can feel it in my bones! Anyways, since I'll be away from home for another week or so, posting will be light. You can look forward to some sweet art that has been on my radar. The above pieces are by Josie Morway (spotted on My Love For You). I can't stop staring...

Happy Memorial Day by the way! Do you have anything awesome planned?!

GUEST POST // MASHANDA SCOTT brought to you by GBM

Mashanda-1

Hey There! Curt here, the second half of the dynamic Grizzly Bear Modern duo filling in for Jen today. I figured I'd give you a little art for your Friday. Check out that typical scene of domestic living up there. Seem a little off to you? Kinda smooshy? Well that's 'cuz it's all hand sewn fabric and leather impostors posing as a trusty wooden ladder, garden hose, etc. With that, I'd like to introduce you to the amazing Mashanda Scott. She calls herself a sculptor, but that's a pretty loose definition. Regardless of what you call it, she does some pretty amazing things with the materials she chooses to work with.

"With my sculptures, my aim is to replicate (as closely as possible) functional everyday objects in an opposite material, rendering them useless.  Through the loss of function, form gains importance.

I tend to choose objects that I am familiar with, but whose beauty I have ignored.  I love objects that are well worn and used, with scrapes and paint splatters.  The details are important, and I love discovering them as I explore the object. "

Mashanda graduated from Art Center in 2009 and is originally from Seattle (appropriate, no?) but now lives in LA.

I've been digging pop-up shops/concepts as of late. The Vinyl Factory concept store, Music is Art (via we heart), is located in the front room of the St Martins Lane Hotel in London. The space "pays homage to records and the relationship between music and art, celebrating the unique, the tangible and the rare in an age of rapid digital consumption". Brilliant.
