...and if you're not in town...come visit us in SLO! :)

this week's "newsweek" article on haiti literally brought me to tears.
the photos hit hard.
since i don't have tv or cable, my photo sources are the net and magazines...
i feel helpless.
it makes a lot of things i'm dealing with seem irrelevant,
and a lot of the things around me... meaningless.
and so i pray...
i can't pray enough....
[all photos are from the january 25 issue of "newsweek"]
"roughly 10% of the city's houses were destroyed, leaving an estimated 300,000 people homeless"
{left} "a girl reacts to the death of her 14-year-old brother"
{right} "an injured girl sleeps alongside her mother and brother at a makeshift trauma center"
"a man picks his way among corpses outside the capital's overflowing morgue"
so speechless...
i bought my husband this shirt for his birthday today.
i'm sure it is the only thing he would really want.
here are regina's beautiful and touching lyrics (love!) that we will be performing:
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
When they’re starving or freezing or so very poor
No one laughs at God
When the doctor calls after some routine tests
No one’s laughing at God
When it’s gotten real late
And their kid’s not back from the party yet
No one laughs at God
When their airplane start to uncontrollably shake
No one’s laughing at God
When they see the one they love, hand in hand with someone else
And they hope that they’re mistaken
No one laughs at God
When the cops knock on their door
And they say we got some bad news, sir
No one’s laughing at God
When there’s a famine or fire or flood
*Chorus*
But God can be funny
At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke, or
Or when the crazies say He hates us
And they get so red in the head you think they’re ‘bout to choke
God can be funny,
When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus
God can be so hilarious
Ha ha
Ha ha
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
When they’ve lost all they’ve got
And they don’t know what for
No one laughs at God on the day they realize
That the last sight they’ll ever see is a pair of hateful eyes
No one’s laughing at God when they’re saying their goodbyes
But God can be funny
At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke, or
Or when the crazies say He hates us
And they get so red in the head you think they’re ‘bout to choke
God can be funny,
When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus
God can be so hilarious
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one laughing at God in hospital
No one’s laughing at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God when they’re starving or freezing or so very
poor
No one’s laughing at God
No one’s laughing at God
No one’s laughing at God
We’re all laughing with God
this is heavy and light. i haven't posted anything on the gulf oil spill but it doesn't mean it hasn't been on my mind and heart! not sure if i have the right words but my friend tommy has really good thoughts about design + current oil spill situation that i resonate with [here]. i thought the above image (from crude awakening) and recording were worth a post. see and hear...check it!
the sense of community was palpable on friday evening!
i've never felt anything like it.
a melting pot of
artists,
lovers,
believers,
designers,
musicians,
students,
friends,
families
bakers,
photographers,
crafters,
(etc.!)
gathered together to do what they could, to help a nation rise.
the elements in the following pictures
create a perfect and intoxicating concoction
that make me weak in the knees!
they create warmth, hope, inspiration and fulfillment.
a feast for my senses and then some!
most importantly i was struck with an epiphany.
for once i deeply grasped what we as people should be doing...
and how we as a community should be living and loving!
